The European Space Agency (ESA) celebrating 50 years in inspiring science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
A pioneering journey started in 1964. A conventions for two agencies, ELDO and ESRO, come into force.
Later in 1975 ESA is created, merging ELDO European Launcher Development Organisation with ESRO European Space Research Organisation.
Countries who joined are : Belgium, Germany, Denmark, France, United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Ireland.
The first major mission was successfully launched the same year, Cos B, a satellite monitoring gamma ray emissions in the Universe.
Since then ESA has produced some of the most inspiring missions to date, including the anticipated Rosetta/ Philae landing on Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko
